The aim of ‘Goya and the Modern World’ is to demonstrate the affinity between some of the most arresting subject matters with which the artist dealt and the themes handled by other artists throughout the Modern Age. The intention is not so much to consider the influence of Goya's works on other artists dealing with the same subject matters, as to illustrate, in addition, the links between Goya’s own vision and that of artists such as Gericault, Delacroix, Manet, Munch, Kiefer, Dix, Picasso, Masson, Kline and Saura, amongst many others.
