Guided visit to the Basilica of Saint Engracia

Mr. Antonio Mostalac, Director of the Heritage and Cultural History Service of the local Council, explained in a second visit with the Friends of the Goya in Aragon Foundation the historical and artistic relevance of the Saint Engracia Basilica.

The origin of this monument lies in a christian chapel of the II-IV, where worship the Saint Engracia and the martyrs remains. From this period have been coserved in the church crypt two paleochristian sacophagus made by a roman workshop in the first half of the IV century.

Guided visit to the  San Lázaro Covent

The Friends of the Goya in Aragon Foundation visited the recently opening remains of the San Lazaro Convent and knew the importance of this monument during the Sieges of Zaragoza.

Mr. Antonio Mostalac, Director of the Heritage and Cultural History Service of the local Council, explained  the historical meaning of the remains, the archaeological diggings carried out and the efforts that the public Administration has made to preserve them.

Guided visit to the La Estela de Goya exhibition. At the Cajalón Exhibition Hall.

Continuing the Guided Visits series, a trip was arranged to the In the Wake of Goya exhibition, accompanied by its curator, Mr. Ricardo Centellas, who provided a detailed commentary on the exhibition as a unique event which was offered exclusively to the Goya in Aragon Foundation.

The exhibition aimed to illustrate and deepen understanding of Goya’s effect on his disciples and followers and to establish reference points for the study of this subject.

Guided visit to Muel and Remolinos

Mr. José Ignacio Calvo, head of the Restoration of Objects Department at Zaragoza Provincial Council, was the leader of this guided visit who provided a detailed commentary on the work of Goya at the Our Lady of the Spring Chapel in Muel and the church of Saint John the Baptist at Remolinos. The visit also managed to fit in a few stops en route at towns such as Sobradiel and Alagón, where those attending were able to enjoy paintings created by Francisco de Goya during the various periods he spent in Zaragoza.

Guided visit to the Camón Aznar Museum, the Pilar Basilica and the Pilarista Museum.

At the end of the summer, the Goya in Aragon Foundation once again took up its programme of guided visits by offering the Friends of the Foundation and their partners a detailed insight into Goya’s work in the Our Lady of the Pillar Basilica. Our tour began at the Camón Aznar Museum and then moved on to the Pilar Basilica and the Pilarista Museum. On September 19th, Mr. Juan Carlos Lozano, lecturer in art history and Director of Cultural Activities at University of Zaragoza, accompanied us on our visit to these two celebrated institutions in Zaragoza.

Guided visit to the Zaragoza Museum. The Goya rooms

A visit was arranged for the Friends of the Goya in Aragon Foundation in celebration of the reopening of the Goya rooms at the Zaragoza Museum. The visit was led by Mª Luisa Arguís, Zaragoza Museum's curator at the Department of Fine Arts, who walked with us round the recently-inaugurated exhibition, where we had our first sight at exhibition of the new collections of non-screen printed engravings by Goya which have been acquired by the Aragonese Regional Government.

Guided visit to Fuendetodos

The second visit in this programme on June 13th took us to Fuendetodos in the province of Zaragoza, the birthplace of Francisco de Goya, where we were able to visit the house in which he was born, the Zuloaga exhibition hall and the Engraving Museum, accompanied at all times by the village mayor Joaquín Gimeno, who talked to us about the municipality’s plans for the future.

Guided visit to Aula Dei

The visit marked the beginning of the programme of guided visits and took place on May 23rd. Our destination was the Aula Dei Carthusian Monastery. Mr. Gonzalo M. Borras Gualis, Professor of Art History and member of the Goya in Aragon Foundation’s Scientific Committee accompanied us on our visit and provided a very interesting commentary on Francisco de Goya’s murals in the monastery.
