Saint Joseph with the Child Jesus, José Luzán Martínez

The work was acquired from a private collection thanks to its inclusion in the Goya and the Sobradiel Palace exhibition at the Zaragoza Museum, where it is now held.

The composition is probably based on a Flemish model. The style of the painting, however, is more in the Rococo style, both in the use of colour and brushstrokes.

This is the first time this work by José Luzán has been on show. It passed straight from the artist to the family which owned it until its recent acquisition. The painting still retains the original Rococo frame.
